It Takes a Village Community Project

  • Grumpy's Bar + Wood Fired Pizza Farsley, England, LS28 5UJ United Kingdom (map)

📣 A new community project! What’s it all about?

We’ve teamed up with our neighbours SCRAP Creative Reuse Arts Project and the wonderful MHA Communities Farsley to take part in LEEDS 2023; a summer celebration that's about Leeds, for Leeds, by Leeds.

We are championing the ward of Calverley and Farsley by creating a series of Banners that reflect the spirit of our unique communities.

And what’s more, we’d love the good people of Calverley & Farsley to help design the banners that will be displayed across the ward at the end of summer 2023!

🙌 How you can get involved…

Join us at Scrap for a art workshop and come and meet with other members of the community to draw pictures of all of your favourite people, places and even pets that will be later turned into patterns on our new community banners.

The project and workshops will be intergenerational with the aim of promoting social interaction and engagment amongst people of all ages!

The workshops are free to attend and will take place at Scrap in Sunny Bank Mills, Farsley. Choose from the following dates and times:

Tuesday 30th May, 12pm - 1.30pm
Tuesday 30th May, 2pm - 3.30pm
Thursday 1st June, 12pm - 1.30pm
Thursday 1st June, 2pm - 3.30pm

Tickets can be booked online for free below.
*Please book a ticket for every person attending as part of your booking (ie. anyone that will need a seat of their own)

🏠 Can’t make it to a workshop?

Why not join us on Tuesday 30th May from 6.30pm - 8pm at our Drink & Draw at Saint Jude? Simply book a table online via www.saintjudeleeds.co.uk and come and meet up with others to sketch and sip, sketch and sip (Suitable for 12+).

Plus, you can always join in from home, a community group or organisation and create designs for the banners that can be sent to us digitally or dropped into The Gallery at Sunny Bank Mills.

Simply DM a clear photograph of your drawings to @farsleycommunityproject on instagram.

The deadline for taking part is the 30th July to give us time to create the banners ahead of the exhibition in August.

🚩 What are the themes of the banners?

The individual banners will be designed around the following themes, you can use these to prompt ideas for your drawings and designs:

🦆 Outdoor Spaces

🏏 Sports & Leisure

🍰 Food & Drink

💅 Retail & Beauty

🚩 Groups & Organisations

📚 Care & Education

🎨 Arts & Culture

🐶 People & Pets

Perhaps you could draw yourself enjoying a hot chocolate in your favourite cafe or you could sketch some flowers and trees to represent The Orchard? Ormaybe doodle some vegetables and a spade to demonstrate the allotments or your veg patch at home?

You might like to represent your local choir or sports team, your postie who delivers your letters or even your pet dog Pete - Celebrate the place you live by drawing literally anything you like and we’ll try and include as many of the illustrations as possible on the banners.

🧵 Why not Volunteer?

We’re on the look out for local stitchers and seamstresses to help us to complete the banners in time for the exhibition in August.

If you are free in July and would like to volunteer for a few hours of your time and skills we’d love to hear from you! Please email calvfars@leeds2023.co.uk with your interest and we’ll et back to you asap!
