Family Workshop: Headdress Decorating
with Farsley Lantern Festival
Wednesday 24th July: 9.30am - 11.30am

Join us for a morning of arts and crafts at SCRAP Creative Reuse Project with artist Morwenna Catt.

Morwenna Catt is an internationally exhibiting artist working across media, with a specialism in Textiles and Illustration.  For many years Morwenna has also designed & created large scale characters, costumes, lanterns, banners and site decor for events and parades, working with communities to make their ideas come to life.

What to Expect

During the workshop families will be giving the opportunity to decorate an ‘Urban Wildlife’ themed Headdress which will be used as part of Farsley Lantern Festival’s end-of-year parade at the Christmas Lights Switch On.

Morwenna will show you how to paper and decorate each headdress which will later be strung with fairy lights to form part of Farsley’s first ever large scale Lantern Festival.

The headdresses will need to be left to dry and be stored safely. But never fear, we’ll take great care to label each one with the creators name so they can be collected again on the night of 27th November to be worn in the parade.

Children at the workshop will also be shown how to make and decorate a lantern made out of a recycled plastic bottle, which they’ll be more than welcome to take away or donate towards the props that will decorate the parade in November.
